The Earthwatch Institute will hold its annual conference on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Harvard Science Center. The program, which is open to the public, begins with registration at 9 a.m., at the Science Center.

This 20th century meeting will highlight the role of volunteers in research and conservation, in recognition of the United Nations naming 2001 “The Year of the Volunteer.” The conference will feature talks and poster presentations by 50 scientists and scholars from around the world.

William Sill, curator of paleontology at the Museum of Natural Sciences in San Juan, Argentina, and professor at the Universidad Nacional de San Juan, will deliver the keynote address. With the help of Earthwatch volunteers, Sill has directed excavations of Triassic deposits of the earliest dinosaurs.

Tickets for the event are $15, which includes a reception. For more information and advance registration call (800)-776-0188 or visit the Web at www.earthwatch.org.
